I established BDB Consulting Ltd. in Feb. 2016. Having survived the global economic downturn & subsequent collapse of the Celtic tiger I wanted to future proof my business model, moving from a stand alone Engineering consultancy & client representative to a team based consultancy. Based in Limerick City we employee full time Engineers and specialised trusted sub-contractors. We offer a full range of civil, structural engineering solutions & project management services and cater for large, medium & small scale residential & commercial construction developments. From initial consultation to completion, green or brown field site, renovation or regeneration project we bring a wealth of experience & innovation to the table.I am responsible for managing business operations including finance, IT, scheduling, HR, mentoring & team building, marketing, business dev. & existing client relationship management. Our team of engineers has a combined 60 yrs experience. As a chartered engineer I am ultimately responsible for sign off & certification. I oversee design & calculations, planning and if required site supervision. I ensure quality of design documentation is upheld. I deliver technical specifications, prepare contracts, review & evaluate tenders for construction projects.I act as client representative & project manager for large & medium scale developments including management & development of civil & building projects. I oversee project to ensure compliance with regulations & delivered within budget. If within the scope of the project I certify completion of validation & stage payment certificates. My role involves stakeholder engagement & management. I am the project coordinator between client, contractors & third parties. This service can be extended beyond the scope of the construction process, to include any necessary interfacing with commercial, legal, finance, letting or statutory parties.

CJM Civil Engineering & Project Management Services was established by Ciarán Gallagher, a chartered engineer with 13 years experience in July 2006. Based in Limerick CJM provided project management & experienced engineering solutions for medium to large scale residential, commercial and community developments across a number of sectors including private, public and commercial semi-state bodies. CJM was voluntarily winded up in February 2016. Role Involved: Responsible for engineering advice, fee agreements, program of works and cost estimations. Services offered: stage payment certs, pre-purchase structural surveys, snag lists on new & old buildings, certificate of compliance for planning permission, site safety & safety documentation, land registry maps & declarations. Intermediary on contract negotiations, co-ordinate services at every stage of project lifecycle including planning, civil design including hydraulic modelling, water networks, SUSD design, procurement, and construction.

I spent over 5 years in Michael Punch & Partners Ltd. (now Punch Consulting Ltd.). Starting as a graduate Engineer in June 2000 and progressed to Design Engineer after 12 months. I assumed Project Engineer status from 2003 onwards. As lead engineer this involved project ownership & reporting to senior management. I became a chartered engineer in June 2006. During my time in Punch Consulting I was involved in a number of large projects including two contracts under the Limerick Main Drainage system which involved the construction of a pump station and the upgrade of canal and lock gates; and the installation of a 2 meter diameter TBM crossing under the River Shannon. I worked as part of a multidisciplinary team on Civil Engineering projects. Depending on project size this would be up to a 10 person team. My involvement included project management, allocation of work, design, formation of tender documents, awarding contracts and supervision of the works for both public and private sectors including commercial & domestic developments. As project lead I was responsible for client relationship management & stakeholder engagement.

I took a year out in June 2004 to pursue my rugby playing career ambitions in New Zealand. I used this opportunity to work oversees & joined Waiotahi Contractors Ltd., located in Whakatane in the Bay of Plenty. They are a civil engineering, quarrying & trucking contractors specialising in the transport, road and infrastructure industry. I was a Project Manager on a number of major road junction improvement schemes and housing infrastructure projects. A month after I joined I managed the companies response when severe flooding caused a national state of emergency in New Zealand. Liaising direct with local authorities, I headed up relief efforts, coordinating multi-disciplinary teams on 24hr/7 work cycles, overseeing and organising relief work on river bank reinforcement works preventing the region and densely populated areas from flooding, clearing and reopening roads after earthquakes and subsequent landslides. Having delivered on our promises to complete these works I negotiated with authorities to obtain contracts for subsequent relief works in the aftermath of the flooding.Key responsibilities included: setting out, ordering materials, time placement of employees, overseeing health & safety on site and tendering.
