Cindy Somers is the Franchise Owner of Spherion in Bloomington, Champaign, Decatur & Rantoul, IL. Cindy is a 1990 graduate of Indiana University with a degree in Programming Planning and Management. She was raised in Champaign, IL. After studying at IU she went to work for the MWR Department of the Navy in Great Lakes, IL. She returned to learn her father’s business in Champaign in 1992, Norrell Services. She became partners with her father, Penn Nelson, in 1999 and sole owner in 2012. In 2009 she acquired the Decatur market.Cindy's most recent award from Spherion is the Spirit Award for her selfless attitude toward hercontributions to the company and her local communities while maintaining Spherion’score values. Cindy was awarded the 2018 Entrepreneurial Excellence Management Award at the Innovation Celebration, the 2012 Athena Award winner chosen by the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce. Cindy also was honored by the CU Schools Foundation in 2011 with the Community Impact Award. Spherion was given the Spirit of Caring Award by the United Way of Champaign County in 2014. Spherion won the Champaign County Chamber’s Small Business of the Year in 1996. They have also won numerous Spherion awards for outstanding performance as a Franchise. She has a wonderful family; Mike, Justin & Lainey. Cindy is very involved in the community; Don Moyer Boys & Girls Club Foundation Board member, past Board member, Junior Achievement past Board member, C-U One-to-One Mentoring Program past mentor, Past President of the Mentoring Scholarship Foundation.
