During my years at San Jacinto College I served as Faculty in the Emergency Medical Services Department as well as Program Director, Program Coordinator and American Heart Association Coordinator (AHA). Duties included teaching and classroom management, development of new teaching methods, curriculum development, course management, student counseling, exam development and scheduling for part-time faculty and student clinical experiences. In addition, were roles in student retention, student recruitment, promotion of the program via advertising and speaking engagements, equipment maintenance, purchasing of equipment and supplies, inventory maintenance, budget management and payroll. As Program Coordinator, I had overall responsibility for conducting an emergency medical services (EMS) training course under the direction of a Texas Department of State Health Services approved EMS training program. As AHA Coordinator I was responsible for all AHA course management, supplies and certification cards.

I worked as a Lead Paramedic for a few different companies during my time on a 911 Ambulance. This position I was responsible for patient care in many different settings including major traumatic events as well as transfer of seriously ill or dying patients. In addition to my medical skills and knowledge I interacted with people of all walks of life honing my communication skills as well as demonstrating empathy and understanding. As a Paramedic I also was responsible for maintaining order and control in a sometimes chaotic and fast changing environment. Keeping the ambulance fully stocked with required and necessary supplies was also a huge part of this position. Being able to accurately document all aspects of each individual call was required in order to have a smooth transition for my patients from emergency care to the next level of care to be provided for them. Another aspect of my position as a Paramedic was knowing and following rules and laws regarding emergency medical service including the very crucial HIPAA law requiring patient confidentiality.
