Senior Software Engineer
Maintained and added features to the Gateway Server (GS) project. This multiplatform, C++ solution served as a gateway between networks. The GS operated under a range of Linux distributions (including embedded Linux) and Microsoft Windows. The main feature of this product was its "store and forward" capability, which ensured reliable message delivery. Upon receipt of a message, the GS would save off the packet to a database and forward it to the appropriate interface. The GS also employed a sophisticated method of handling duplicate messages and retries (for cases where a message's receipt did not get acknowledged).During my short tenure with TeraHop, I learned a great deal and met some incredible people. The experience of working at a place like this is rare and will not soon be forgotten.
Senior Software Engineer
Responsible for connecting game technologies and implementing effective solutions for training and learning in game based environments. Efforts included writing several modifications to ValVe's Source engine and a "proof of concept" solution using Gamebryo 2.6 as a baseline. Established RNI as a major player in the serious gaming world. As a member of a small development team (1-3 coworkers) with a very limited budget, effectively delegated and completed tasks to help meet aggressive milestone and demonstration schedules.
Software Engineer Iii
As the only DSCI employee onsite, established a strong rapport with client and other team members. Along with three offsite coworkers, guided the Thru-Site Situational Awareness (TSSA) project to success. The TSSA project combined the Advanced Concepts Research Tools (ACRT) simulator, a Head Mounted Display (HMD), NVESD's Paint-the-Night (PTN) image generator, and DSCI's situational awareness tools and symbology to provide the vehicle's commander with a superior view of the battlefield.Designed and implemented the gateway between the ACRT, PTN, HMD, and DSCI's situational awareness tools.Acquired a great deal of knowledge about interactions between simulations and simulation packages. Gained crucial experience with OTBSAF and MetaVR.
Software Engineer
Was designated to perform maintenance work on the Start-Up and Diagnostics (SD) Computer Software Configuration Item. SD was a good starting place because it provided knowledge in low-level scripting, makefiles, sockets, server/client methodology and programming, signal handling, and process/thread management. SD was comprised of C along with shell scripts to coordinate startup and run diagnostic tests on individual hardware components in a UNIX environment (HP-UX 9.07 and 10.20 to be specific).Established strong debugging skills using gdb and ddd.Performed code analysis to address memory leaks and overwrites in the existing code.Added support for testing new versions of system hardware.Worked closely with system testers to help provide a clear picture of the tests that needed to be designed.Traveled to England for five days to teach the UK's System and Hardware Engineers how to use SD as a diagnostic and fault isolation tool.Attained initial exposure to the DIS protocol outside of the educational environment.
