In this role I will develop a survey that will be administered to KidWind educator community and REcharge network. I will help in evaluating responses and analyze results to prepare a report of the findings to the KidWind team.In addition, I traveled to San Antonio to assist in the smooth operation of the 2022 National KidWind Challenge, where students from across the country (and Mexico) participate in wind energy, offshore, solar, and hyrdopwer challenges.

One of my responsibilities is to work with contact and database entry to help make things run smoothly at Great Plains and Metro CERTs. We use SharePoint and Monday.com interfaces, so I am well-acquainted with those programs.My work is also project-based. Some of my projects include writing case studies about seed grants or other funding that were given to residential or commercial entities to fund their clean energy transition. An example piece focuses on Sanctuary Covenant Church in Minneapolis and how they fueled their community with solar energy savings.

In this role, I worked under Professor Anika Bratt to collect and analyze water and algal samples in order to understand the historical impacts of redlining in the Twin Cities on regional water quality. I learned how to use ArcGIS watershed tools and utilize FlowCam Imaging Microscopy to identify potentially toxic site-specific algal assemblages. To analyze nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations in the samples, I gained a deep understanding of water filtration procedures and filtered 24 samples from different water bodies across the Twin Cities. Additionally, I became skilled in water chemistry from using colorimetric methods to identify levels of N, P, and chl-A.

Throughout my Summer working for Minneapolis Climate Action (MCA), I learned so much about the nonprofit world and the environmental justice and climate movement. It takes community, compassion, and hard work to bring people together for any cause. I learned how to communicate effectively about environmental justice. MCA and FRAYEO (Fortune Relief and Youth Empowerment Organization) created a collaborative program to educate youth in Minneapolis' East African community about climate change and global warming. Making curriculums and interacting with our premier youth cohort helped me grow as a communicator and showed me how to meet people where they are, as well as how to make tough, scary topics like the climate crisis lead to empowering conversations for change-makers.
