I've had over 25 years experience working closely with adults & children with Autism, Learning Disabilities & Mental health, some with profound difficulties & challenges.I have a degree in Autism & Housing Practice CIH & grew up with a family member that had LD. I got somewhat frustrated that we as care providers despite some excellent work at times weren't making the sort of differences I'd hoped. I think some of the problems were that we were just too prescriptive, however it was evident to me that what caused the biggest change both positively & negatively on those with LD, ASD & Mental health was the environment. If we get that right we see great outcomes.That is why I moved to housing provision, to raise standards, learn all I could about the effects of the environment on the end user & look at design that helps the care providers provide the care.I have seen first hand the huge difference environments make to the lives of those with autism, learning disabilities, and mental health difficulties. I worked closely with Cornwall NHS Trust to move people out of hospital, stop bed blocking & stop the revolving door of readmittance as well as helping many charities, care providers & LA's in providing homes that work for the end user. I set up Real Housing Partners to help deliver high standard accommodation that works well for both care provider and end user.
