Backend engineer that loves the humans I build software for and with. I take a holistic approach to helping the company succeed. I work hard to grow other engineers, deeply understand the problem space, and occasionally deliver working software. Definitely my former managers' favorite employee.But in all seriousness, I'm a real human being. And I can get really passionate about solving problems for the company and for our customers. I love writing code, and I love doing it in a team environment. I care about what the company really needs. I tend to ask a lot of questions about "why" this feature is important and how it interacts with the rest of our plan. I spent my first five years at a small and growing software shop called Xima Software. This was such a blast. I got to wear a lot of different hats, and had to solve some seriously cool problems. Scaling the team up and improving our practices through trainings and book clubs was a highlight of my time there. I spent a little under four years at Google here in Austin, TX. Working in "FinanceWorks", where I helped build a new tool to expedite and clarify approvals for purchase requisitions. This was an awesome intersection of writing software for Google's first party platforms, integrating with SAP services running in GCP, and navigating legal and bureaucratic requirements. I learned a TON about big companies, finance, procurement, distributed systems, and third party integration. Really had a great time. Food was wonderful. Teammembers were cool. Shoutout to a really good manager Kalyan Sakhamuri for mentoring me and helping me do the right thing in a BIG org. I was laid off in January of 2023. If you have the chance to get laid off by Alphabet, I highly recommend it. Severance was lovely, and I got to take some needed time off to recharge.My next year+ was spent with Lucid Software. I'd always wanted to work for Lucid! I had a good time learning Scala and helping migrate our internal provisioning / licensing / purchasing services to a different set of vendors. After 15 months, I needed to take some time off to focus on my health. I miss the team and project, but I wasn't in a position to give it what it deserved. I'm now feeling ready to get back on the horse with a remote gig.
