I work in the Vogel Lab within the BioMET Department of the School of Medicine at UMB. Here, we study the disease Macular Degeneration using the organism C. elegans. I am responsible for all molecular biology experiments for the lab, which includes creating transgenic C. elegans worm lines using both CRISPR/Cas9 techniques and through constructing plasmids that can be expressed in the worms. I also perform multiple genotyping experiments using PCR. I maintain a detailed laboratory notebook with results of each experiment, and present results to my Primary Investigator (PI) during weekly lab meetings. I also manage the laboratory, which includes placing laboratory supply orders and organizing and maintaining a clean laboratory.

I am a lab technican for the Vonhoff Lab at the Department of Biological Sciences at UMBC. I perform all molecular biology experiments for the lab, which includes creating CRISPR/Cas9 mediated transgenic Drosophila melanogaster fly lines, as well as sequencing and protein analysis projects. I am currently collaborating with a Howard Community College laboratory to create a CRISPR/Cas9 mediated transgenic fly strain to confirm a specific mutation in the white gene in D. melanogaster. I also instruct a high school student intern through a 6-month molecular biology project, which includes daily preparation of supplies and reagents for experiments and working closely with the student throughout each experiment. I maintain a detailed laboratory notebook with results of each experiment, and presented results to my Primary Investigator (PI) during weekly lab meetings. I have assisted my PI in preparing the “start-up” lab, which included deciding on and managing large laboratory supply orders and organizing and maintaining a clean laboratory.

I also performed accurate calculations and kept detailed records of the data in a laboratory notebook.
