I lead Saferworld’s Conflict Advisory Unit (CAU) and act as a member of Saferworld’s leadership group. I co-lead the UK Integrated Security Fund Helpdesk on Women, Peace, and Security, and oversee the work of country-based conflict sensitivity facility teams in South Sudan, Sudan, and Afghanistan. I carry out high-level advisory support on conflict sensitivity, gender sensitivity, and fragility, conflict, and violence issues.

I provide high-quality advisory support to governments, NGOs, civil society, financial institutions and others trying to work more effectively in and on conflict. I support efforts to integrate conflict-sensitive approaches, both into specific programmes as well as into standard operating procedures and organisational culture. I also work with country programmes and other teams across Saferworld to ensure the highest standards of conflict-sensitivity approaches, and share what these teams are learning.

I worked to strengthen Christian Aid's approach to tackling violence and building peace across the organisation. I promoted learning and mutual support between teams working on conflict sensitivity, violence, gender based violence and conflict transformation. My focus was mostly on humanitarian settings of complex, protracted conflicts. This work included direct technical support, programme development, facilitation of learning, and development of good practice and guidance. I also supported Christian Aid's work on advocacy connected with specific conflicts, engaging with relevant Irish, UK, and European audiences. I represented Christian Aid when working with donors, NGOs, academic institutions, and others.

London, United Kingdom

I led on lesson learning for humanitarian responses by DFID's Conflict, Humanitarian, and Security (CHASE) team. This included commissioning, managing, leading and participating in reviews of operations. I ensured the results improved the quality of operations through quarterly monitoring with management and timely interventions in new responses. I supported knowledge management efforts including working with DFID country offices to absorb their experience. I drafted high quality briefing to advise senior officials and ministers. I supported the design, implementation, and review of simulation exercises (Triplex, cross-government Nepal earthquake simulation). I deployed as part of DFID emergency response teams.

Tarin Kowt, Uruzgan, Afghanistan

Management of the 4-person M&E unit for the Uruzgan province projects of GIZ IS. This covered the design and implementation of the final impact assessment of Phase 1 (2008-2011), and development of the M&E system for Phase II (2011-2013) - impact chains, indicators, work plan, review schedule, baseline survey. I also conducted regular monitoring field trips in consultation with the Risk Management Office, coordinated with programme components for M&E needs, provided input for programme steering and decision-making for management, and prepared reporting.

Information gathering in refugee camps in Somali region of Ethiopia, preparation of a major funding proposal to UNHCR, and donor reporting on a range of projects

Monitoring and evaluation of the social cash transfers programme (cash grants and micro-loans for vulnerable households caring for children). This included co-ordination of return of survey questionnaires and other information from the programme regions, design of a database for quantitative data, data analysis and interpretation for reporting. Also, monitoring field trips, advice on improvements to the programme design and strategy, particularly in relation to scale-up of the programme. Separately, I took on management of the ‘people with disabilities’ work plan, supporting government (particularly Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs) and NGO partners in policy change and advocacy activities. As well as this I was involved in proposal development, concept notes, and reporting, and represented UNICEF at various bodies, including the National Orphans and Vulnerable Children Taskforce.

I prepared speeches, reports, briefings, etc. for representatives of the OSCE from a range of member countries. I was involved in the organisation of conferences, seminars, election observation missions, and official visits. I attended the meetings of the Permanent Council and sub-committees, with primary responsibility for the committee dealing with human rights and democratisation issues and reported on Permanent Council and committee work to the PA Special Representative. I also took care of the coordination of the work of the Vienna Office with the Copenhagen Secretariat and the financial administration of the Vienna office.
