Dr. KAREKEZI is a Neurosurgeon at the Rwanda Military Referral and Teaching Hospital and a Senior Lecturer of Surgery at the University of Rwanda, School of Medicine and Pharmacy. Dr. Karekezi holds an MD from the University of Rwanda, College of Medicine and Health sciences (2009). She completed her neurosurgery training from the University Mohammed V of Rabat, Morocco, World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) – Rabat Training Center (RTC) in 2016. She later pursued a Clinical Fellowship in Neuro-Oncology and Skull Base Surgery at the University of Toronto, Canada (2017-2018) before returning to Rwanda. In 2018, Dr. Karekezi became the first woman Neurosurgeon in Rwanda.Dr. Karekezi’s clinical practice focuses on Neurotrauma, on the multidisciplinary treatment of adult Brain Tumors and on the surgical treatment of Skull Base lesions. Her main research focuses on Neurosurgery Education in Africa, Brain tumor treatment advances as well as technological development in Neurosurgery in Sub-Saharan Africa. She is a member of multiple national and international surgical/neurosurgical societies.
