About Claire Kiedrowski

I’m passionate about geospatial technology and digital mapping. In part, it’s because I’ve watched this profession transition from film and precision instruments, to high-end computers with powerful graphics capability, to now doing this work with smartphones and drones. And because I get excited by using my practical expertise to break down this complex topic into everyday terms. All these technologies are coming together in a rapid-fire way to make digital mapping more powerful and more useful than ever. What’s not to get excited about?When I founded KAPPA Mapping in 2003 I was unsure of where the future would lead. My work provided me the opportunity to use my creative problem-solving approach on complex projects from local to international. As a result, I became a recognized leader amongst peers and in the community, and became an expert witness for the profession. Under my leadership, KAPPA Mapping received multiple awards for the innovative use of traditional and emerging technologies to meet the complex challenges faced by our clients. I believe that comes from my desire to bring out the best in my team, pushing them past their comfort zone to do more than they thought possible.It’s where I cultivated the mantra: change your outlook; change the outcome.Today I lead Cornerstone Energy Services into new markets, developing products and services that reflect the rapidly changing technologies and business climate. I get to influence future mapping professionals through the University of Maine Surveying Technology Program. And I influence the industry as an advocate, speaker, and workshop facilitator. Away from the office, you’ll find me outdoors on a hike, flying kites, playing boules, reading and learning about astronomy, and enjoying music and dance, good food and great wines.
