Growing up I worked in the family retail business and this led me to study Retail Management at the University of Ulster. The degree partly focused on accountancy which encouraged me to apply for my first job as a Trainee Accounting Technician in Moore Stephens Business Recovery and Insolvency department. Although I joined the firm with the intention of practicing as an accountant, through training in the BRI department, I realised that insolvency was the field I enjoyed the most and wanted to pursue.I continued my studies and am now a qualified Certified Accountant and have also achieved the IPA's Certificate of Proficiency in Insolvency and have passed the JIEB Personal Insolvency exam.I now have over 18 years' experience in insolvency and am manager within the voluntary arrangement team at Baker Tilly Mooney Moore specialising in IVAs, CVAs and PVAs. We are a local firm in Northern Ireland advising both local individuals, sole traders and companies and those further afield. My main role is to assist people in dealing with their financial difficulties and to try to find the best solution to deal with their debt. I am involved in the preparation of arrangements between clients and creditors ranging from reduced repayment plans, to agreeing time for clients who are under threat of bankruptcy to realise assets. For those in a business, these arrangements can assist in allowing the business to trade on whilst past debts are compromised.Outside of work, I am mummy to Isla who is 6 and Beth who is 4. They have turned my world upside down (in a good way)! Being a mummy and working full-time doesn't leave much time for hobbies but I do enjoy shopping (when my other half Drew and the girls allow), walking and travelling. If you want to discuss any debt issues that you or one of your clients are facing, please contact me at clairemateer@bakertillymm.co.uk.
