Claire Burns is an accomplished marketer, strategist, communicator and cross-sector leader passionate about expanding possibilities for customers and employees, while helping solve entrenched challenges for society at large. A seasoned CMO, she believes a well-managed brand has the transformative power to unite organizations, solve problems for customers and build trust with a range of stakeholders.In her current role at as Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at The Hartford, Claire oversees the enterprise marketing, branding, digital, customer experience, media relations, communication, and community relations functions. She also chairs the company’s Sustainability Governance Committee, where she leads actions to uphold The Hartford’s top quartile ESG performance in the U.S. insurance sector. Previously, Claire served as Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer at Prudential International and Chief Customer Officer for MetLife, a Fortune 50 insurer operating in 45 countries. Throughout her career, Claire has helped U.S. and global companies innovate their products and services, devise growth strategies and transform organizations and cultures, often as part of company mergers and integrations. An advocate for using public-private partnerships to solve social problems, Claire completed a year-long fellowship with the Presidio Institute and the White House Office of Social Innovation in 2015, where she helped harness actuarial data for public good. She has chaired several non-profit boards of directors focused on equalizing access to opportunity. Claire currently serves on the boards of Healthfirst, a New York health insurer serving over 1 million Medicare and Medicaid members, the Alpha Community Services YMCA, focused on ending chronic homelessness in the city of Bridgeport, Conn., and the board of advisors for the Yale Center for Customer Insights.
