Salem Ma Remote Instructor To Baton Rouge Louisiana Charter School

Taught 3 synchronous blocks of 46 10th grade students Biology 1 in order to fulfill the school's requirement for a Biology credit in a newly opened Vocational Charter School. The students were located in a southern state, and I taught from my home office in Salem, MA.The students follow a curriculum via Moodle Learning Management System, called Course Choice, recommended by the State of Louisiana Department of Education.Duties include grading written assignments submitted through Moodle, Monitoring Discussion Forums, monitoring and accommodating students on IEP's as well as web conference with all students regarding their work and how to study to raise their grades. I was encouraged and had the freedom to include real time physical experiments such as demonstrating Osmosis using salt water and a carrot. I created instructional videos in my office, posted them to my You Tube channel, then shared them with the students over the Moodle. Sharing my videos gives me a connection to what my students are doing in their classroom, in order for us to dissolve the miles between us. See my created example of our osmosis experiment. My students conducted the experiment along with me, and we shared results through written daily blog.We learn more than just basic Biology. Although important, the idea of a self paced class along with a virtual instructor who will be there for the students for academic support is invaluable experience for them and me.
