My responsibilities over the summer are listed below. -Managed an international project team made up of engineers in both the UK and China, building strong working relationships with colleagues through online channels. -Utilised effective communication skills to ensure that the cross-continental team worked efficiently, bearing in mind at all times the importance of cultural awareness in a commercial environment. -Mentored a new Project Manager by providing training in various project management tools and overseeing multiple projects. This enabled me to advise potential project risks and possible improvements to schedules, enhancing my leadership qualities whilst also providing me with an opportunity to reinforce my own knowledge and skills within the field. -Worked on further aspects of project management such as resource management, bid reviews and quotations, giving me a great insight into how the company puts together the initial costs and scope of a project.

In my third year of University, my peers appointed me as the ‘Careers Rep’ for the Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering Department at Loughborough University. This role involved encouraging students to attend a variety of events and workshops organised by the Career’s Department. I was also able to work closely with the Careers Team to create and co-ordinate workshops that would provide the most benefit to students.

I underwent a 14 month industrial placement with GE Oil & Gas as a Project Management Intern. I got involved in various tasks such as the below. -Oversaw long term projects, providing an interface between the customer and a team of engineers. Building strong relationships with customers and suppliers by hosting a number of customer calls and meetings. -Got involved in various different stages of the project life cycle such as new designs, production readiness and customer returns. Becoming more experienced in a variety of project management tools such as risk registers and tollgates, I also became proficient in Microsoft Project. -Managed the transfer of a product line to the company’s sister manufacturing site in China, negotiating the terms of transfer with the customer and identifying and minimising any risks involved with building the product overseas. -Presenting to customers possible improvements to the manufacture of their products and subsequently supporting the implementation and qualification of new production processes. Giving me the opportunity to gain experience in providing business cases to the company for large expenditures. -Visited suppliers to understand their capabilities and identify potential areas of improvements to their documentation and manufacturing processes.

My repsonsibilities here included signing members in and out, booking people onto classes, joining and cancelling memberships and working in the café where we served hot drinks and smoothies. I often had to work under pressure and handle large amounts of money, this forced me to be organised and learn to act quickly and efficiently.
