Duties: Receiving and reviewing new client contacts/referrals.Communicating with sufferers and their families and providing advice, counselling, and support as needed.Developing and running educational forums to inform and empower sufferers (to include keynote speakers relevant to the sufferer journey).Contributing to and distributing a resource ‘pack’ for new sufferers to help guide the mesothelioma journey.Developing and maintaining relationships with medical specialists and other stakeholders.Maintaining an awareness of what is happening in the ARD support space, connecting with affiliates and resource providers as needed.

When at 42, my husband received a terminal cancer diagnosis he decided to enjoy an early retirement. Over the following 4 years, he and I dedicated our time to supporting our children and living life fully. In addition to providing clinical nursing care and support. I researched and advocated on Colin's behalf for access to innovative treatments in Australia and overseas. Resulting in access to a 3 month clinical trial in the USA. I coordinated funding and overcame significant insurance barriers and logistical challenges to ensure safe access for my husband and our family. In addition, we became visible advocates for the West Australia Voluntary Assisted Dying campaign. Completing in person and written interviews across all media formats and meeting with MPs, health specialists and consumers to inform the campaign. The legislation was accepted into Parliament in December 2019 and will become active in July 2021.

Combining my experience as a nurse, love of writing and familial journey with cancer. I completed training as a dignity therapist with Dr Brenda Bentley in 2017. Dignity Therapy is a psychological intervention for those facing the end of their life. Through structured interviews, participants are assisted to create a printed legacy document to share with friends and/or family to help alleviate distress and communicate important thoughts and memories in their own voice.

I was invited to co-create and present at personal development workshops aimed at women returning to the workforce.
