When at 42, my husband received a terminal cancer diagnosis he decided to enjoy an early retirement. Over the following 4 years, he and I dedicated our time to supporting our children and living life fully. In addition to providing clinical nursing care and support. I researched and advocated on Colin's behalf for access to innovative treatments in Australia and overseas. Resulting in access to a 3 month clinical trial in the USA. I coordinated funding and overcame significant insurance barriers and logistical challenges to ensure safe access for my husband and our family. In addition, we became visible advocates for the West Australia Voluntary Assisted Dying campaign. Completing in person and written interviews across all media formats and meeting with MPs, health specialists and consumers to inform the campaign. The legislation was accepted into Parliament in December 2019 and will become active in July 2021.
