I was born in Brazil, and moved to the United States in my early twenties, pursuing a career in the health field. Over the last two decades I developed a great interest in environmental projects, more specifically conservation and reforestation actions with focus on the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. Here are some steps I took, and projects I was (and am) involved with regarding the Atlantic Forest biome:2003: Started a private project for the conservation of 2000 acres of Atlantic forest in Serra da Bocaina, SP, and continued the action with the planting of 3000 saplings of native trees to reforest degraded areas on the same property. This project is ongoing. 2013 onwards: Collaborated with projects for reforestation of riparian forest in the Serra da Bocaina region, contributing to the reintroduction of more than 13,000 trees in the Atlantic Forest biome.2017 to present: Invited the international nonprofit One Tree Planted to establish projects in Brazil, and initiated a successful partnership with them for community driven reforestation actions. 2018 to present: Started a project to identify and map Atlantic Forest mother trees with the intention of collecting native seeds for future reforestation. As part of the mother trees project, I built a nursery with the purpose of saplings propagation in the region from tree species adapted to local climate.2020 to present: Created the project “Donate a Forest”, where seeds and Atlantic Forest native tree saplings are distributed to children in the region with the intention of creating participatory movements of local families in reforestation.2021: My work in Brazil was recognized by BBC Earth in a story on forest restoration.2022 to present: Started the Collaborative Family Farming pilot project, where vegetable gardens are built on properties owned by low-income families, and also in community spaces with a high concentration of families at risk of hunger.2023 to present: Co-found Instituto Biosfera (IBIOS) and became its vice-president.2023 to present: Joined the Conselho Consultivo (Advisement group) of the Bananal Ecological Station as IBIOS representative, and also became IBIOS representative at COMDEMA (Atlantic Forest Municipal Adviser) for the municipality of Bananal, SP.
