About Claudia Chavez

One of my first achievements was becoming fluent in English in just two months at the age of 7. I was placed in an all English speaking class after my family moved from Mexico to Florida. With no other choice but to learn English as quickly as possible, I soon became the family's translator. I like to think of myself as a positive individual who is loyal, caring, strong-minded, creative, dedicated, and passionate who continues to be determined to work hard through any adversity. I earned my bachelors degree in Business Administration with a minor in Finance on May 2015 from the University of Maryland Global Campus, formally known as the University of Maryland University College. During my course study, I was fully dedicated to my education, my family, and my volunteer commitments. I felt like I was going 100 miles per hour but I was able to reach the finish line with lots of pride and appreciation for my hard work. At that time I enjoyed volunteering for organizations serving military members and their families, not because I am part of the cohort, but because I am a firm believer in leading by example. By becoming involved with organizations that serve those like me, I have learned to become familiar with my available resources and use them to inspire younger military families to love and appreciate the military lifestyle so that they may make the best of their experience. I moved to Okinawa, Japan in the summer of 2015 where I quickly began to work for Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) Okinawa as the Administrative Office Manager for their Management Information Systems (MIS) branch. This position has allowed me to witness the large role IT plays in today's companies; and granted me the opportunity to continue my educational development, thanks to the company’s TA benefits. I completed my MS in Financial Management and Information Systems. I was driven by to field of study because technology is the driving force of operations in business and the best way to support a company is by knowing how to navigate that force with the ability to know the difference between investing smartly in innovative technology that could drive up the value of a company or stay away from ineffective solutions.
