Served as Director of the City of Virginia Beach's Department of Aquarium and Museums as well as the Director of the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center, and Executive Director of the Virginia Aquarium Foundation. Director of the department that operates the Francis Land, Adam Thoroughgood and Lynnhaven Historic Houses, and the Princess Anne County Training School Museum and oversee the City's Historic Preservation efforts.

Led a major public aquarium with 650,000 visitors annually, 65 full time staff, 60 FTE's and 1,000 volunteers. Successes included increased Board involvement and diversity and creation of young professional support group; introduced commercial IMAX® films to boost revenues; instituted a strategic model for operating; increased membership and staff development opportunities. Managed $11.4 million Aquarium budget and vision has led to capital improvements including a new parking lot, marine animal care center and $25 million exhibit renovation; increased department visibility through partnerships; led $28 million capital campaign including national Kresge Foundation challenge and accreditation of two professional aquarium organizations. Created historic preservation commission. Chaired City's Cultural and Recreational Strategic Issue Team. Led capital campaign to renovate exhibits building and build a research center.
