Start Up Manager - Rolling Hills Power Plant
Primary start-up engineer responsible for verification that plant equipment was in compliance with project contract and specification requirements, conforms to design operational feasibility, and is set up and tested per the supplier’s requirements. As the lead start-up engineer for Black and Veatch, I provided functional direction and supervision to other engineers, technicians, and craft support on staff. The plant was an 850 MW natural gas-fueled peaking electric generating plant that was designed and constructed for Dynegy. This simple-cycle plant provided power for the PJM Interconnection market during periods of high demand. (http://rollinghillsproject.com/) Assisted in the development of start-up packages as required. Tracked and controlled all documentation required for proper maintenance of the start-up packages. Participated in the preparation and maintenance of a detailed start-up schedule. Proactively planned for start- up activities and major milestones (such as major equipment, chemical cleaning, steam-blow, or demonstration and performance testing). Managed construction completion, turnover to start-up, start-up turnover to operations, and final turnover to the client. Assisted in the development of clear start-up procedures as required to satisfy the contract and coordinated the start-up effort. Executed the start-up effort ensuring compliance with the associated specifications and contracts and ultimately resulting in an efficient and timely turnover Dynegy. Completed thorough system walk downs/reviews to establish the completion status of systems and identify outstanding items to be completed. I was the primary point-of- contact for all system functions through start-up and operation of the plant. Control systems included: Siemens Westinghouse TXP, Allen Bradley PLC's, GE Motor Management Relay System, and Siemens CM388.
Controls Engineer Ii
Junior level engineer who performed control engineering functions requiring knowledge and experience in engineering principles. This level built on experience gained as Engineer 1 by obtaining more depth in specific subject area with the expectation that assignments are larger and more complex.Performed instrument & control system design on new and existing utility and industrial power generation facilities. My typical responsibilities included design control system, control logics, size control valves and flow devices and provide instrument & control input to system Piping & Instrument Diagrams (P&ID's). My responsibilities also included system analysis, calculations, research, equipment selection, layout, etc., necessary to develop required design documents. Other duties included supervision of the engineering work of assigned drafters, designers, and occasional subordinate engineers. I coordinated design efforts with personnel in the same and other departments and to review designs and resolve areas of concern.
Start Up Engineer - Fort Myers Power Plant
Part of a team of engineers that was responsible for start-up all plant equipment. Assisted in functional direction and supervision to other discipline engineers, technicians, and craft support on staff. The Fort Myers project was a one-of-a-kind, 6 x 2 configuration in which six GE 7FA gas turbines exhaust into six Foster Wheeler 2,400-psi HRSGs. The HP, IP and LP steam supply two steam turbines. Because this unit has such a high capacity rating (over 1,600 MW in the winter), the design and operating procedures were set up such that the single, most severe component failure would not result in the loss of more than 910 MW.Assisted in the development of start-up packages as required. Tracked and controlled documentation required for proper maintenance of the start-up packages. Participated in the preparation and maintenance of a detailed start-up schedule. Executed start-up activities (such as major equipment, chemical cleaning, steam-blow, or demonstration and performance testing). Helped manage construction completion, turnover to start-up, start-up turnover to operations, and final turnover to the client. Assisted in the development of clear start-up procedures as required to satisfy the contract and coordinated the start-up effort.Executed the start-up effort ensuring compliance with the associated specifications and contracts and ultimately resulting in an efficient and timely turnover Florida Power and Light. Completed thorough system walk downs/reviews to establish the completion status of systems and identify outstanding items to be completed. Control systems included: Westinghouse's Ovation System, OSIsoft PI System, GE.

I coordinated design efforts with personnel in the same and other departments and to review designs and resolve areas of concern. Project Engineer responsible for selecting mechanical equipment and designing power plant systems for various power plants.
Mechanical Engineer I
Assigned to the power conversion section of the power division in Black & Veatch. Office: Kansas City, MSResponsibilities include heat rejection studies, gas and steam turbine studies. Assisted project team support in related areas. Responsible for liquid transient analysis study for various projects Created reports on the designated systems suggesting improvements to reduce chances of detrimental water hammer effects. (Well water systems, circulating water systems, etc.)
