Materials science engineer with focus on metallurgy, fatigue, corrosion science and finite element analysis for the development of medical implants. Performed finite element analysis to aid in multiple product development projects leading to innovative solutions and two patent applications. Provided structural mechanics analysis of medical implants including nonlinear materials model development for shape memory alloys, contact, and dynamic analyses. Performed fatigue analysis of stents.Solved process equipment problems across multiple divisions of Gore using materials science, corrosion science and computational modeling knowledge. Provided failure analysis and experimental verification of root causes in order to provide effective solutions. Partnered with external resources where further expertise was needed. In several cases, solutions enabled expanded production capability with existing resources. Developed nonlinear biaxial constitutive model for tissues to assist in the modeling of medical implants. Created corrosion testing capability for medical implants, including validating equipment. This capability enabled research into corrosion performance of devices and supported regulatory submissions for 510K and PMA devices. Worked with product teams to characterize and optimize the corrosion resistance of metallic implant devices. Validated the impact of processes on corrosion resistance. This work provided product team with solutions, data and reports to support regulatory submissions.Developed and implemented new processes to enhance corrosion resistance of endovascular devices.Drove changes to ASTM F2129, the primary test method for corrosion testing of small medical implants. Ran the inter-laboratory study for ASTM F2129 which generated the precision and bias statement for this standard. This standard has since been adopted world wide as the standard for evaluating the corrosion resistance of small medical implants. In 2009, received the Robert Fairer Award from ASTM for this work.Presented published several papers and was an invited speaker at the Cleveland Clinic's Stent Summit on the subject of corrosion of medical implants. Invited panelist to the 2012 FDA workshop on cardiovascular metallic implants: Corrosion, surface characterization and nickel leaching.

Developed numerical model to predict the durability of laminates based on quantifiable physical characteristics of the component materials and the laminate. Model predicted flaw sizes, flaw density, and their impact on durability. This was then used to develop unique and innovative solutions for the problem materials. Solutions developed with the model were implemented into production globally. As a side benefit, solutions were responsible for a significant increase in efficiency due to reduction in process changes required to accommodate different materials.

Developed ion-beam processes for thin film etching and ion-beam assisted deposition for improving interlayer adhesion in a multi-layer thin film product. Implemented statistical process control to the development production line reducing process reworks for the sector by 25%.

Conducted research into reactive sputtering of oxide thin films on polymeric substrates. Redesigned and constructed multi-beam ion-beam deposition system which enabled research team to develop new and innovative thin films.
