I primarily market and sell our Threat Net and WxWorx products to local, state and federal public safety agencies, commercial businesses, schools and universities, storm chasers and virtually anyone with lives, property and/or income to protect. I also provide operational and technical support to current clients as needed and consult with them on the best ways to maximize and expand their investment in our various technologies. My primary function was to interpret and communicate in a clear and easy to understand manner the often complex and technical public health activities, programs, policies and issues involving CDC and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) to editors, reporters, producers and other representatives of local, national and international newspaper, magazine, television and radio media. I coordinated interviews by CDC staff members with the news media and at other times I was quoted in the media as the CDC source of official information. I also researched and edited information for the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report which was widely distributed as a primary source for latest information on CDC investigations and activities.

As Executive News Director, l was the WAAY TV department head for news operations answering directly to the General Manager. I was responsible for the management of this ABC television network affiliate's award-winning news staff of more than 50 full time employees, which includes reporters, photographers, anchors, producers and others. I was also responsible for the editorial content of the station's 19+ hours of weekly newscasts and all other news related programming. Regularly scheduled newscasts, Monday Friday, are at 6:00AM, noon, 5:00PM, 6:00PM and 10:00PM. Weekend newscasts are at 6:00AM, 5:30PM and 10:00PM each Saturday and Sunday. In the fall of 1990, I was instrumental in making WAAY TV the market's only 24 hour news operation. My duties specifically included the overall planning, organizing and directing of the station's news and editorial policies. I was also responsible for departmental personnel hiring, firing, training and scheduling as well as budgeting of payroll, purchasing and operating expenses. Other duties included establishing effective and continuous liaison with local, state and federal government agencies; business and nonprofit organizations; members of the general public as a group or individually; and other broadcasters or members of the press to obtain and disseminate news and information.

This part time position while working at WTVM-TV was with the Training and Audio Visual Support Center. I served as an announcer, narrator and writer in television, motion picture and audio visual productions. I applied knowledge of theories, techniques and practices of audio visual presentation in the design and implementation of instructional and informational programs. I read news releases, programmed and edited multi media programs, worked closely with the project officer/director in the design and planning of scripts and participated in the estimating of personnel and equipment requirements to support job related activities.

As Assignment Editor for this award-winning ABC television network affiliate in the 112th market, I planned, coordinated and assigned the daily news gathering activities of a staff of 25 news department employees. I was responsible for adding, deleting or modifying assignments as ever changing priorities warranted. I maintained regular contacts with numerous local, state and federal agencies; business and non profit organizations; other media outlets and members of the general public.I was often called upon to also assume the duties of news reporter. Specifics of such work included going into the field to conduct live or taped interviews, obtaining information and video, and writing and editing news scripts and video tape for finished reports for delivery on newscasts.As the senior News Producer, I was regularly responsible for the production and content of the daily 6:00PM newscasts. Duties included writing and editing stories and other material, combining these and other elements into a tightly formatted half hour newscast, and supervising the live presentation of each newscast. The news programming at WTVM attained number one ratings during my employment there.

I covered a full spectrum of general assignment news stories, researching, developing and scripting each. Then I combined these elements with film and video tape to produce a finished television news report. News reporters were also responsible for maintaining and regularly working with news contacts from diverse collections of individuals and organizations, analyzing the information developed and breaking down complex or highly technical issues into language easily understood by the masses. Attention to detail and accuracy are essential in the endeavor, as are timeliness and the ability to meet stringent deadlines. WRAS FM is a full power non-commercial educational radio station broadcasting to metropolitan Atlanta. The students of Georgia State University operate it as a public service to the community. I began my practical college learning experience here as a staff announcer for music programs. A limited staff resulted in my quickly assuming additional responsibilities of, in order of assumption, news reporter, Public Affairs Director and Public Relations Director. As a news reporter I covered news events of interest to the academic community and general public. I presented these reports in numerous daily newscasts that I anchored from the studio. As Public Affairs Director, I wrote, voiced and scheduled all public service announcements the station aired daily. In this position I developed, produced and hosted a weekly one-hour issues oriented program featuring community leaders as quests. As Public Relations Director, I published a weekly newsletter of station programming and activities.
