The Discovery Institute Experiential Camps are experiential, hands-on, engaging and FUN! Our 6-Day programs teach the principles, practices and skills of entrepreneurship (see “Topics/Skills” below). We believe deeply that these are crossover skills that apply to all aspects one’s life: school, relationships, work, and life in general. Each camp culminates in a shark-tank style competition where participants pitch ideas to a team of experienced entrepreneurs and business specialists who will mentor and possibly accelerate their concept. Works cooperatively with the principal of the upper school to evaluate, retain, and recruit faculty and coordinate the school’s programs and curriculum. Works closely with middle school advisers and the learning specialist, and faculty to oversee the progress and well-being of students. Director of College Counseling (2007-pres): Developed a comprehensive college-counseling program targeting students and parents (grades 8-12). Provide all services expected from a full- service college counseling program in a high profile and economically flourishing community (frequent and clear parent communication, test preparation, academic advising, extensive college search resources, college application review, college essay review and revision, extra- curricular planning, NCAA student/Athlete recruitment). Establish and manage department budget. Manage a department that includes a counseling assistant, an intern, a registrar and part-time test proctors. Oversee all college admissions testing on campus including AP tests. Serve as academic advisor handling 8th-12th academic planning, placement and scheduling. Conduct faculty in-service. Developed and serve as a key member of the student retention team (Head of School, Upper School Head, Director of Admissions)—curbed attrition to less than 10%. Key member of STEM academic development team—procured $150k for first year, currently drafting $5 million dollar STEM grant proposal.
