Sphere of Influence is a high-tech software company that develops state-of-the-art software for clients in a variety of industries. I had the pleasure of being able to serve their growing customer base for 16 years as a consultant on their Enterprise Architecture Services team. All Sphere of Influence consultants are rigorously trained and mentored to furnish world-class professionalism and service quality.Most of my consultant work was supporting Lockheed Martin on a Missile Defense Agency (MDA) program. The system was a highly distributed, mostly Java-based system. Over the years, I served the following teams:◆ Test Services. Designed and developed applications to increase the software dependability of a critical system. This brought system level tests closer to the developers' desktops. Developers could change a low-level Java class and within minutes see the impact to system behavior with a complete simulation.◆ Software Development Environment. Led a team responsible for the tools and systems used by nearly all developers on the program for day-to-day development, builds, continuous integration, dependency management, and automated quality analysis. My team built software to support these tools and often provided support in their effective use.◆ Infrastructure Services. Led a team responsible for developing common libraries, frameworks, and data access layers for other teams within the program. My team provided the infrastructural support so that other teams could focus on business logic rather than the plumbing of enterprise applications.

Shank Consulting, Inc. was my independent consulting business. As President, my responsibilities were diverse - from talking to customers to figure out how to realize their ideas in software to working with developers writing code. I also learned a little about business accounting and marketing.I served two main clients during this time.► Fannie MaeJanuary 2002 – November 2005 (3 years 11 months) Washington D.C. Metro AreaDelivered four Java EE web applications for processing home mortgages using JSPs, Servlets, XML, WebLogic, and Oracle.Worked on small Agile teams using many of the Extreme Programming practices. Very fun and productive.► Commerce OneNovember 2000 - December 2001 (1 year 2 months) Columbia, MDIntegrated a B2B application using Java, EJB, and XML technologies. Also developed an XML data-binding framework.Had the pleasure of working with some very competent, hardworking engineers.
