I conducted rocket engine hotfire tests daily which included running the tests and performing engine hardware work. I participated in customer, development, and qualification campaigns during my time at Ursa Major, and I have expertise in facility test stand and ground support systems as I cross-trained on two test stands with different architecture. I also maintained test stand hardware, wrote and implemented sequence changes, and completed a CDR for an upgraded test stand purge system with an ROI of less than 4 years.

I was part of the experimental Turbulent Flame Speed project researching the effects of different fuel blends at high pressures on turbulent flame speed for gas turbine power generation. Tasks involved included maintenance of the turbulent flame speed rig, learning the theory and current research behind the project and related combustion science, shadowing operation, updating 3D model in SolidWorks, designing a new gearbox, and assisting with LabView programming.

As part of the SysML group, I learned the basics of MBSE and MagicDraw/Cameo. Our final project involved modeling an Apollo missions system with a group of five. My group modeled the Apollo Command and Service Module, and my subsystem was the service propulsion system. Each subsystem required a minimum of 3-5 parametric equations and par/bdd diagrams, and the entire system required at least 1 top-level equation as well as ParaMagic verification.

As a student co-op at Southern Research in the Thermo-Structural Systems department, I was treated as a newly hired full-time engineer. I worked side by side with my team on our customers’ projects. Over my three co-op semesters, I assisted with seven major projects ranging from operating tests, designing test fixtures, and writing MATLAB tools. I assisted with reducing mechanics data for various projects and presenting the data for reports. Types of data included tension, compression, shear, and fatigue tests for various composite materials which I learned how to interpret. Aside from working on the test and development side of projects, I also helped with other small tasks given to me by engineers such as making labels, assisting the Non-Destructive Characterization lab, and adding dimensions to hardware drawings. I helped technically revise final report drafts making sure the graphs, data, and written conclusions made engineering sense. At the end of each semester, I did a presentation of all the projects I worked on to around fifteen engineers.
