I investigate injury claims that present with indicators of fraud, with a goal to pay what is owed and resist payment of non-meritorious claims. I make personal, and often in-person, contact with the involved parties and use this time to obtain testimony and documentation needed to further analyze the claim. Along with the experiences I’ve gained in prior investigations, litigation claim handling, and fraud claim team management, I review the insurance policies and contract for coverage, consult case law and statues, to analyze liability and the presented damages for thorough evaluation of the claim. I maintain complete records that aide in my investigation and communication of claim decisions. I consult with legal counsel and other industry experts, such as bio-mechanical engineers and doctors, to prepare and direct litigation defenses for arbitration and lawsuits. In addition to conducting claim investigations, I enjoy using my extensive claim handling, and prior management experience, to serve as a resource for other team members, and as an advocate for results based process improvements.

I had the opportunity to serve in a leadership development role as an SIU team manager for 2 years where I led and managed a team of highly engaged claim investigators, who also happened to be my peers. During this two-year term, I handled the day-to-day operation of our claim team. This consisted of managing the SIU file work by conducting regular file reviews, and providing guidance and counsel to the claim specialists on policy contract, statutory and case law, legal requirements, and company policy. I prepared and presented coverage reviews and claim recommendations to management and corporate consultants. I supervised lawsuit handling and participated in all litigation status calls for pending lawsuits. I oversaw the hiring of new employees to the team, and administered salaries and bonuses. During my time in leadership, I used information learned in a fraud exposure analysis to help establish a claim model that aligned our investigative force to those areas in which there was the greatest propensity for fraud. This alignment allowed the company and the investigators to be more effective in fighting claims with suspicious loss indicators.

As a PIP claim representative in Minnesota, I became an expert at individualized customer service when handling personal injury claims relating from the simplest finger slammed in a car door, all the way to dealing with families who are mourning the loss of a loved one from a car accident. I worked to understand their needs, and explain how their first party injury coverage can provide benefits to them through their recovery. I also became adept at dealing with personal injury lawyers in an effort to provide a remarkable claim experience. I carefully analyzed our policyholders’ injury claims, the policy contract, and applicable case law and statutes to determine the compensability of presented claims. If there were any concerns with the appropriateness of the submitted claims, or the reasonableness and necessity of the claims, I would partner with medical and legal experts to protect all policyholder interests and resolve claims in an accurate and timely manner.

During my time as an agency intern, I learned and studied the needs based approach on advising policyholders on insurance risk management techniques and plans. I worked to develop comprehensive business plans to meet production goals and became a fully licensed insurance and financial representative with a property casualty license and life health license, as well as the Series 6 and Series 63 securities license.

I started my insurance career in the fast-paced claim environment of automobile property damage claims handling a large volume of claims related to car accidents. I learned how to promptly and accurately respond to customers’ needs related to the one of their most important possessions, their car. I educated policyholders and claimants on the differences between a collision claim and a comprehensive loss, as well as explain the vehicle damage and repair process in a plain and easy to understand manner. I worked closely with insurance agents, auto body repair shops, salvage yards, as well as our policyholders and claimants via telephone, written communication, and in person, to reach prompt resolution of their property damage claims.
