Providing support for parents with children in state custody through the process of the CINA (Children in Need of Aid) case. Negotiated with the State to find alternative solutions of permanency where children would best remain connected to their birth families. collaborating with other parent's attorneys to address issues regarding family contact, the state's duty of active efforts to reunify the family, and requesting court orders to return children home to their parents or families. connecting with tribal ICWA workers to find culturally based services for families and working with the tribe and families to create viable safety plans to present to the Courts as an alternative for removing the children from their home. creating relationships with the tribal workers and checking in with the tribes' concerns about issues arising in the families' homeOur Holistic Defense Program creates wraparound supports such as assisting parents in filing for child custody, divorce, protection orders. I've worked within our HDP team to provide parents support to litigating other civil needs such as housing and school enrollment. walking parents through the process of filling out applications for social services needs, housing, and assisting parents in sending these forms in when they don't have the necessary access to email or fax. Getting parents into the necessary treatment programs through assisting them in filling out applications and following up with the treatment center to enroll the parent, sending in necessary forms and travel addendums.
