We are a U.S.-based grassroots movement of tens of thousands of activists, COVID survivors and people who have lost loved ones, experts, and health workers in all 50 states. Sparked by the Coronavirus pandemic, and launched during the first week of lock-down, our goal is to take political action to repeal and replace deadly policies that cause cycles of pandemics that disproportionately impact the already poor and sick. We organize to pressure the White House and Congress, with protests, birddog actions, and more than 100 grassroots meetings with Members of Congress each month. We host dynamic online teach-ins ("web-ins") that bring together activists, practitioners, and scholars to learn about pressing issues of health and human rights and how to take action. We train grassroots organizing leaders to mobilize their communities for shared action.

I investigate various barriers to universal access to insulin and essential medical supplies as a part of a campaign to make insulin 100% accessible to people everywhere by it's 100th anniversary of its first use to treat diabetes in 1922.

While at the UWC SOPH I facilitated the winter pharmaceutical courses in Rational Medicine Use and Medicines Supply Management alongside Nondumiso Ncube and Dr. Hazel Bradley. I was also involved in the beginning stages of a research study looking at private health insurance claims for people living with diabetes in the Western Cape to identify areas for improved access and pricing of medicines and monitoring supplies. I collaborated with Professor Delobelle on the SMART2D project with a situational analysis of diabetes treatment and clinical guidelines.

As AYUDA's In-Country Liaison I assisted our local partners Aprendiendo a Vivir out Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in organizing health education classes for children and families living with diabetes around the island of Hispanolia. I supported outreach activities and expanded on the foundations data collection and patient follow up protocols within the Santo Domingo office as well as around neighboring cities community health centers. Hemoglobin A1c results were collected and analyzed as a part of an ongoing study sponsored by Life For a Child to measure the impact such foundations have on people living with chronic conditions such as diabetes.

I assisted in 2 summers of closed loop artificial pancreas studies being run out of Camp Conrad Chinook and Camp De Los Ninos diabetes summer camps out of Big Bear and Santa Cruz, California, respectively. I gathered patient information to fill out CRF reports, prepped and inserted continuous glucose monitor and insulin pump infusion sights, initiated and monitored nightly closed loop artificial pancreas systems, and inputed the subsequent data into excel spreadsheets for later analysis.
