I'm a science nut and gamer with a strong interest for physics, technology, data, game design, education, fitness, people, animals and the world. I've worked as an engineer, a fitness instructor & coach, and a secondary school teacher. I'm currently seeking opportunities as a data analyst or similar role.My primary training was as a scientist and this has always been part of the basis for my views on work and life. I've also led projects as an intern process engineer at Intel Ireland and volunteered with the DSPCA, Camphill Communities and with Data Kind to leverage the power of data.I see myself as a collaborative worker, always willing and able to work and learn with others to get the job done. Friends describe me as easygoing but passionate about my interests and always there to help when in need. I love discussing big concepts and ideas, I'm also a lover of learning and working on my own projects.More recently I have completed studies for the HDip in Computing at DIT, specialising in data analytics, from which I graduated with a first class honours in 2016. Since then have enjoyed working at Bank of America Merrill Lynch as a software developer and LinkedIn as a Data Analyst. Please contact me here or by my email: cormacnolan85@gmail.com

Data AnalystLinkedin Jun 2018 - May 2019Wilton Place, Grand Canal Dock, Dublin 2Supporting executive reports with intelligent dashboards, ad hoc analysis and maintaining a high standard of data quality to strict deadlines. Working closely with a wide range of stakeholders from data scientists, to strategic or financial analysts, to country managers to extract insights, transfer technical knowledge and maintain complex data flows between different technology stacks. Technologies:R - SQL - Git - Tableau - Hive - HDFS - Presto - Pig - Teradata - Python - Jupyter Notebooks - Azkaban - Bash - Linux - GradleThe bulk of my work at LinkedIn was to support and maintain the data flows and dashboard generation for a high visibility dashboard, used by executive and management teams. This included weekly troubleshooting to a strict deadline and developing automated data quality checks on various platforms, combining multiple data sources. I was also responsible for enhancing the dashboard over time with contextual information to make for easier interpretation, and developing an automated data pipeline to replace the previous manual process. I was also responsible for taking ad-hoc data requests from financial and strategic analysts, led a feasibility study into using time-series analysis to quantify the impact of holidays on KPI's and developed tools to enhance analyst productivity. -

Data Miner (Work Placement)Swiftqueue Jul 2015 - Dec 2015DublinA work placement as part of the HDip in Computing at DIT. There were two main deliverables that were completed, with very positive feedback from within the company. Firstly, I was responsible for developing an automated reporting system that is used internally and for creating reports for clients. This involved collecting requirements on a very iterative basis from internal stakeholders who were familiar with the needs of clients and of swiftQueue itself. Documentation and maintainability were an important requirement due to the short-term nature of the work placement and need for hand-off to internal stakeholders at the end of the placement.Secondly, I was responsible for a predictive modelling project to identify patients who were more likely to not attend our clients' clinics. This work was done with advice from a consulting data scientist. The data modelling side of this project was completed successfully with the main deliverables being a working predictive model and a report delineating the performance and limitations of the model and under what circumstances the model would be useful by way of a costing analysis. -

Secondary School Science And Physics TeacherCecil Jones College Aug 2012 - Nov 2012Southend On Sea, United KingdomGCSE Science and A-Level Physics teacher, working full time with students from ages 13 to 19. A challenging work environment with students of very disparate backgrounds and a wide range of aptitudes. Here I adapted and created a wide range of teaching materials to suit the various curricula with a constant focus on professional development by expanding the range of teaching tools and classroom management tools used with students. Parkour InstructorExcel Gymnastics Jan 2009 - Aug 2012Celbridge, Co. KildareDue to my long-standing interest in parkour I formed a group with other like-minded practitioners of parkour to work on a part-time basis to teach, mentor, guide and make sure all our parkour and freerunning students were developing in a safe and structured way. My colleagues and I developed curricula, expanded our repertoire of room management skills and also our own skills as parkour practitioners. It was here I had my first experience with teaching which was very positive and influenced my later decision to move into secondary school teaching.

Process Engineering InternIntel Corporation Jun 2006 - Sep 2006Leixlip, Co. Kildare, IrelandThis summer internship was my first experience in a professional, corporate role while still a student of physics at NUI Galway. Here I learned many valuable lessons as part of the Carbon Vapour Deposition (CVD) team about how to conduct a project in a professional environment, such as the value of a strong mentor and the placing of emphasis on results first and optimisation later. My main responsibility was to conduct an experiment and write a report to help determine more accurately the end-point of a particular industrial process at FAB24 by using a set of sensors and analysis software.
