Supporting executive reports with intelligent dashboards, ad hoc analysis and maintaining a high standard of data quality to strict deadlines. This included weekly troubleshooting to a strict deadline and developing automated data quality checks on various platforms, combining multiple data sources. I was also responsible for enhancing the dashboard over time with contextual information to make for easier interpretation, and developing an automated data pipeline to replace the previous manual process. I was also responsible for taking ad-hoc data requests from financial and strategic analysts, led a feasibility study into using time-series analysis to quantify the impact of holidays on KPI's and developed tools to enhance analyst productivity.

Datakind is a charity that provides data analytics services to charities and NGO’s that lack the expertise and resources to create high quality data analysis. Delivered a well-received report to our charity partner based on supplied survey data. Including statistical tests of significance, plotting and report writing. Presented findings at the end of the project sprint.Created an R package for use by Datakind volunteers for two tasks. Firstly,to easily interface with data on CSO.ie. Secondly, more easily create consistent and clean plots for R users. Methods used included web scraping, unit testing and continuous integration. A framework was put in place for future development on the package.

Engaged with a several projects in the areas of backend development, application support, software release co-ordination, debugging and development in legacy systems, web development, unit testing, integration testing and project co-ordination. Technologies: SQL Server, tSQLt, Python, Oracle DB, Git, SVN, Scala, Angular JS & NPM. Development: Strong advocate for agile development practices within the team. Successfully paired to develop and test significant changes to legacy data enrichment systems and GUI code. Contributed to analysis, development and testing of a large project to allow BAML to settle trades using externally sourced counterparty information on a per-market basis.Collaboration: Led training efforts within the team on new technologies and with offshore teams as they moved to support several legacy applications.Project Co-ordination: Successfully co-developed, co-ordinated, delivered and handed over a regression testing project.

A work placement as part of the HDip in Computing at DIT. There were two main deliverables that were completed, with very positive feedback from within the company. Firstly, I was responsible for developing an automated reporting system that is used internally and for creating reports for clients. This involved collecting requirements on a very iterative basis from internal stakeholders who were familiar with the needs of clients and of swiftQueue itself. Documentation and maintainability were an important requirement due to the short-term nature of the work placement and need for hand-off to internal stakeholders at the end of the placement.Secondly, I was responsible for a predictive modelling project to identify patients who were more likely to not attend our clients' clinics. This work was done with advice from a consulting data scientist. The data modelling side of this project was completed successfully with the main deliverables being a working predictive model and a report delineating the performance and limitations of the model and under what circumstances the model would be useful by way of a costing analysis.

Managed and directed the academic development of Leaving Cert. and Junior Cert. students, in one-to-one and small-group environments. This included full year academic courses and specific exam preparation. At The Rye Institute I consistently attained impressive gains both in student attitude towards their subjects and in exam results, as part of a teaching team.

GCSE Science and A-Level Physics teacher, working full time with students from ages 13 to 19. A challenging work environment with students of very disparate backgrounds and a wide range of aptitudes. Here I adapted and created a wide range of teaching materials to suit the various curricula with a constant focus on professional development by expanding the range of teaching tools and classroom management tools used with students. I resigned from this position due to temporary but acute illness that continued into early 2013.

Due to my long-standing interest in parkour I formed a group with other like-minded practitioners of parkour to work on a part-time basis to teach, mentor, guide and make sure all our parkour and freerunning students were developing in a safe and structured way. My colleagues and I developed curricula, expanded our repertoire of room management skills and also our own skills as parkour practitioners. It was here I had my first experience with teaching which was very positive and influenced my later decision to move into secondary school teaching.

Taught several classes in Science, Physics and helped create content to the 4th year astronomy module, taking elements and ideas from my undergraduate education. This position was my teacher practice for the Professional Diploma in Education at UCD.

This summer internship was my first experience in a professional, corporate role while still a student of physics at NUI Galway. Here I learned many valuable lessons as part of the Carbon Vapour Deposition (CVD) team about how to conduct a project in a professional environment, such as the value of a strong mentor and the placing of emphasis on results first and optimisation later. My main responsibility was to conduct an experiment and write a report to help determine more accurately the end-point of a particular industrial process at FAB24 by using a set of sensors and analysis software.
