This involved a combination of news aggregation, original reporting and interviews. Given the fast nature of the job, I not only crafted the copy myself, but also self-edited for flow and style. Other tasks included TV & Movie reviews as well as in-depth personal essays into matters relevant to the LGBTQ+ community.

Coordinated and managed a literacy-based mentoring program at the Ella Baker School, which involved overseeing 70+ 2nd-8th grade students as well as over 80 corporate volunteers. Responsibilities included matching students with volunteers, monitoring student progress, assessing relationships between students and volunteers as well as corresponding weekly with various teachers, mentors, and staff at the main Read Ahead office.

I am responsible for teaching 16 classes of English as a Foreign Language to 10th and 11th grade students. These classes encompass aspects of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Additionally, I teach one class a week to Thai coworkers as a means of professional development.

Chiang Mai, Thailand

My responsibilities included the writing of daily news articles for the Citylife website, most of which focused on Thai social and economic politics. Further responsibilities included the writing of longer pieces for inclusion in the monthly magazine, pieces which explored issues of sexuality, human trafficking and cultural preservation. Aside from writing, other responsibilities included peer editing, collaboration and constant research and monitoring of online sources for news.

Contributed 2-3 pieces a month to the main Thought Catalog page, covering a wide range of topics including love, loss, travel, and everything in between.

I spent two summers teaching courses at the Exploration Summer Program, which included: Creative Writing, A capella music, Satire and Parody Writing, Gender Identity and English as a Foreign Language. The classes of fifteen students met daily and several informal feedback/tutoring sessions occurred after class.Additionally, I served as a Residential Advisor to groups of 20 sixteen-year-old male students. Duties involved supervision as well as weekly activities that engaged the students in conversations about respect and intellectual growth.

Responsibilities involved answering telephones, inputting data into an online Admissions database, fielding questions from prospective students and their families, leading tours of campus, as well as conducting Admissions related research for counselors.

South Burlington, Vt

Taught weekly lessons in English as a Foreign Language to a group of fifteen adult Somali refugees seeking American citizenship. Lessons involved everyday survival English as well as review for the American citizenship test.
