As a sales engineer I helped customers design solutions around flash based storage for large database, virtualization (server and desktop), and web farm architectures. Educate customers on the architectural differences between flash systems utilizing form factor MLC drives versus SLC flash chips with a dedicated high-speed bridge. Performed proof-of-concepts and evaluated new technology to showcase RamSan capabilities.My other hat was an IT manager brought on-board to help modernize the TMS IT infrastructure. I deployed a VMware server virtualization environment utilizing RamSan technology as well as creating a new network backbone. I also worked with upper management to design a business continuity plan in case of a natural disaster.

Duties include managing a team of systems administrators in the support of over 300 servers and over 400 Terabytes of storage for 500 employees and over 46,000 students. Creating and enforcing information security guidelines for the five TAMU Libraries, project lead for TAMU security compliance as well as the development of security hardening procedures for all IT infrastructure. Other duties include the preparation of the Digital Initiatives budget proposal, which consists of five divisions, and over 1.5 million in asset purchases each year.Current projects include the migration from Novell directory services, email, and file servers to a Microsoft directory service and email server (Active Directory, Exchange) and a collaborative document management solution (Xythos). Other projects include the creation of a disaster recovery/business continuity plan and the development of IT business policies to comply with TAMU audit requirements.Completed projects include the migration of standalone servers to a virtual environment - I engineered a virtual server environment consisting of VMWare and Solaris Zones, which consolidated two datacenters into two 42U racks. Other projects include the migration from workstation grade storage (12 TB) to enterprise grade storage (>100TB) that utilizes an enterprise backup environment using a multi-silo table library.

Duties include supporting Sun enterprise servers with over 50 combined Solaris virtual zones, support of all NAS and SAN storage solutions, directory services for both Unix and Windows, support of all Windows servers, and support for all Mac and Windows workstations. Other duties included assisting in programming projects as needed. Completed projects include the development of a preservation network using grid storage across all Texas Digital Library (TDL) data centers located at the University of Texas, Texas A&M University, and Texas Tech University. Implementing Shibboleth authentication for TDL, which will allow multiple universities or federations to access TDL resources using their directory services. I am also developing a distributed remote installation process for servers in TDL data centers. Achievements during my employment include the founding of the Texas Digital Library in January 2006 and the creation of the Texas A&M University Institutional Repository in October 2004.

Main responsibilities included administration and support of all Linux and Unix servers and workstations. Development of automated installation process for all Linux servers and workstations. Developed an application to accept student information via data feeds from Texas A&M University and interface the data into the department door security system. Other responsibilities included database administration and maintenance of Solaris software packages.

Designed a web application for leasing department to track potential customers and referrals. Installed and configured a Linux server to handle directory services, network storage, backups, and printing. Troubleshot network outages for the business and student networks. Organize largest social event of the year for the residents. Help students adapt to college life and any other person problems.

Administration and support for all Linux and Windows servers and workstations. Implemented a single directory service for authentication from the department's web site or Windows and Linux workstations using OpenLDAP and custom PHP scripts to update user passwords from the web. Developed a web based task tracking system, web based documentation system, and converted the department's website form Perl to PHP. Maintained the department's Linux and Windows servers and workstations. Upgraded the building's network with a Gigabit *ber optic backbone and new CAT5e lines to every office and lab for future upgrade to gigabit Ethernet.

Main responsibilities included administration, maintenance and repair of a 22-site wide area network between the main campus and branch offices, installation and maintenance of a 23-site automated teller machine network, and maintaining a Meridian One option 11 PBX digital phone switch. Other responsibilities included installation and maintenance of over 500 workstations and over 50 servers running Windows and Unix.
