We will provide rural income generation opportunities to coffee farmers, discourage negative urbanization, and encourage the completion of education of farmers’ children: by improving crop yields, further developing the coffee value chain and connecting farmers directly with international markets.Safi Coffee (www.saficoffee.com) is working with Kenyan coffee farmers who are making .02 USD a pound for the coffee sold. With an undependable income and a lack of basic tools, farmers are ensured poor yielding harvests. Many Kenyan farmers’ children do not attend school, yet work in the fields furthering the poverty cycle. We will build the capacity of farmers in better business practices and grant access to the necessary tools. The corporation will connect the farmers directly with consumers, forcing them up the coffee value chain. We will manage the corporation to ensure best business practices are maintained and the farmers make an equitable share of the profits. This venture is expected to support 2000 farmers, keep 5000 children in school and an additional 5000 community members through the job development.
