I was responsible for ensuring the delivery of locomotives, coaches and DMU rail projects. Managing daily work records and activities, updating project plans. Checking technical information and schematics, to guiding and supervising production staff. My team includes 3 permanent production staff and up to 5 contractors (depending on project demands). I report directly to the Head of Projects and work closely with our Engineering and Procurement departments. At times, I will assist my team and act as a technical guide for electrical faults and commissioning work. Included in my role is being the point of contact for our external suppliers such as Hasler, Arrowvale and Unipart.Worked closely with our Loram US colleagues in the testing and commissioning of 3 brand new state of the art C44 rail grinders for Network Rail. Working in Derby and at Network Rail's test facilities in Tuxford, commissioning safety systems, such as Thales TPWS/AWS, Arrowvale OTMRs and vigilance. Electrical project lead for complete rebuild of two class 37/4 locos. All aspects from, strip, installation and testing and commissioning. Ensuring that interfaces between existing 1960's train systems are integrated with new technology such as Hasler's train data recorders and GSMR systems. Systematically closing these out as working correctly as designed.

Selected to work with the Hitachi Rail team to implement the installation of European Train Control System (ETCS) on locomotive 97301. This was successfully fitted and tested on Network Rail ETCS / ERTMS infrastructure.Approached by First Great Western to carry out major exam and overhaul work to four of their Class 57/6 locos. Planning and executing tasks to a team of technicians to carry out tasks set out in the vehicle maintenance instructions and ensuring timely completion of the project.Guided a team of 10 technicians on the SITT (Snow and Ice Treatment Trains) project for Network Rail. Responsible for all electrical aspects of the project, including material requirements, staff requirements, engineering changes, project progress and working closely with Network Rail's fleet engineer to complete the project on time.

The start of my railway career in 2003 involved testing, fault finding and rectifying electrical defects of new Bombardier trains, specifically on the Class 375 Electrostar. Day to day duties comprised of commissioning train systems such as propulsion, radio, air conditioning, driver train controls, brakes, doors, passenger information systems, 3 phase motors, pneumatic systems and IP networks. Working with vehicle sign off sheets, schematics, crimp tools and Bombardier software such as Elda, Mitrac, Monio and DCU term. Handpicked in 2009 to represent Bombardier and proudly join the Gautrain Test Team working in South Africa for 18 months. Successfully assisting in the completion of Africa’s first high speed railway. While working in South Africa I gained considerable knowledge in all aspects of managing the production of vehicles on the assembly line and in the test bay. The transfer of technology to the local SA technicians, team leading and being the single point of contact between Derby and Johannesburg. I found these challenges and responsibilities very rewarding.

Kick starting my engineering career as an assistant in the build, machine maintenance and test process of the varying size of industrial power presses and robotic transfer systems.Learning about panel / machine wiring, modifications, and working from schematic drawings formed the basis of all work undertaken. I also undertook various aspects of the factory and office maintenance.AIDA Bliss closed its doors in early 2004 and the factory has been empty ever since.
