I had the pleasure of reporting to Colby in varying capacities centered around healthcare IT integration for about four years and in those four years I learned a great deal from the daily example that Colby set. His management style is second to none and his compassion for his direct reports is tremendous. On top of being one of the most genuine people you have the pleasure of working with, he also knows his stuff. His business acumen and low level field knowledge give him the ability to translate complex problems into simple solutions. Quite frankly, Colby is a pure problem solver, whether it is an internal business problem or an issue with a gap in a developed solution, Colby identifies the issue, evaluates the risk and mitigates the issue to whatever end is necessary. Another one of Colby's many valuable traits is his unconscious ability to take ownership of anything and everything where he can add value. Once Colby is involved in a project, he seamlessly starts dissecting the involved pieces and starts saying "we can help there". Which brings me to another great quality of Colby's. Colby is the last person to take credit for any of his personal successes and the first person to assume blame for mistakes made by his team. I can remember a time where we had a customer issue and Colby was the first person to directly address the issue with the customer and organize a game plan to remedy the issue in real time. Colby doesn't think too much when it comes to customer issues, because he doesn't have to. His instincts kick in and he just does, and what he does is always the right thing by the customer. What makes Colby even more awesome is; as focused on success as he is, you can still share a great laugh with him at pretty much all times. He knows our work is serious, passionate stuff, but he also knows how to have fun and he creates great workplace culture inside of the groups that he manages. He knows when to shield his people and when to expose specifics to them as well. He always has everyone's best interest at heart, even before his own. Colby Leftwich is the kind of leader I aspire to be every day, and one that any organization should fight tooth and nail to have as a part of their executive leadership team."
