Currently Professor of Geophysical Monitoring at the Institute of GeoEnergy Engineering, Heriot-Watt University. He holds a B.A. and M.A. in Mathematical Physics from the University of Oxford (1980) and a Ph.D. in Geophysics from University of Edinburgh in 1983.After postdoctoral research in Utrecht and Trieste, he transferred to Edinburgh University to work on industry research with the British Geological Survey. He moved to Heriot-Watt, IPE in 1999 where he established the Reservoir Geophysics Group in 1999. The main activity of this group is concentrated in the Edinburgh Time-Lapse Project (ETLP) an industry sponsored project that was founded in 2000, and it currently has 16 staff and students. The focus is the development of techniques for effective integration of reservoir engineering and 4D seismic for quantitative interpretation, with an emphasis on areal monitoring of CCS, Hydrogen storage and hydrocarbon production. Colin has published over 400 journal papers and conference publications in the general areas of seismic reservoir characterisation, and won the Conrad Schlumberger Award from the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers for his contributions to Geoscience and Engineering in 2007. He also co-authored the paper that won the Norman Falcon award of the EAGE in 2018.Colin is a member of the European Association of Exploration Geophysics (EAGE), Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), Royal Astronomical Society (RAS - Fellow), Institute of Physics, Royal Scottish Society of Arts (SSRA - Fellow).
