From 2004 to 2008 I was responsible for overseeing 1 week to 24-month contracts within Scottish Biomedical. This has involved liasing with potential clients to develop research plans and to present these ideas to the client, as well as to lead them to successful completion within the given time period and to budget. I was involved in the initial costing of projects and giving timelines to potential scientific proposals. I project managed all disciplines of biology and chemistry but was mainly involved in respiratory projects and co-ordinated projects between teams within Scottish Biomedical.From Sep 2002 to the end of 2003, I was a Senior Scientist at Scottish Biomedical, working in conjunction with a large pharmaceutical company. As senior scientist I was responsible for the day to day experimental work in the Pharmacology department The work that I was responsible for includes; validation and screening of multiple inflammatory airways disease models (COPD, asthma and ARDS models), cytokine profiling of the samples collected and also responsible for the pilot work and new assay development carried out within the Pharmacology department.

Post-Doctoral Research Fellow: Pulmonary Inflammation and Immunotoxicology Under the supervision of Dr M.I. Gilmour at the US EPA, this research focused on the inflammatory response of the lung to inhaled material (such as ambient particles and endotoxin) in various models. This involved the investigation of the immune response and elucidating the mechanism of action. Focus concentrated on susceptible and transgenic models, transcriptional regulation and oxidative stress. This research was applied to the effect of inhaled ambient particles on susceptible individuals (those with asthma or COPD)
