Product Planning Manager for Amdahl's mainframe UNIX system (UTS). Planned future technical direction and content of new UTS releases with particular emphasis on large systems features and database processing. Responsible for evaluating, negotiating, and porting of third-party vendor products to UTS including database software, compilers, testing tools, office systems, and networking products.

Worked on the development of a new transaction-driven operating system. Responsible for the direction of the new operating system with respect to database support. Designed new operating system functions for supporting the integration of database facilities.

Provided technical IMS and DB2 database support to all countries outside of the US. Evaluated IBM’s new DB2 product for usability and installability. Identified missing functions in DB2 and suggested design improvements where necessary. Responsible for reviewing and influencing the long term DB2 strategic development plan.

Provided country-level technical support to IBM customers on all aspects of IMS from installation to final performance tuning. Responsible for the country-wide planning of the migration of key IMS customers to new release levels of IMS. This included education of product function and usage, plus advice and guidance on planning the new installation.

Provided IMS support to internal application groups involved in developing ordering processing, manufacturing parts ordering, inventory control, bill of materials, and personnel systems. Support included database design guidance, performance prediction, and the design of conversion aids. Provided system programming support for an internal DB/DC system. Reponsible for designing, programming, and maintaining a European-wide internal interplant parts ordering system for the manufacturing systems group.
