I work with healthcare systems, research institutes, and nonprofits to help them articulate their strategy behind projects and pinpoint messages, themes, and storytelling opportunities that will best serve their goals. I also work with a team of extraordinary writer and editors to craft compelling feature stories, physician articles, web pages, blog posts, white papers, and case studies.

I helped create and edit all the content related to the launch of Quest's first consumer genetic health test. This included everything from robust dashboard content to hundreds of genetic health reports, educational articles, kit copy, and marketing and product pages. I also helped developed ads and add-on flows to help connect consumers to other Quest offerings including health coaching and related lab tests. I collaborated with designers, researchers, genetic counselors, product managers, marketers, developers, and QA specialists to test and implement the entire experience.

I was the writer, editor, content guru for UPMC's behavioral health app. I collaborated with a team of SMEs and UX designers to create health and behavior change content that is helpful, genuine, interactive, and inclusive. I drafted the living, breathing Style Guide we used to create the product, adapted and distilled several existing programs, and created original ones.

I collaborated with the marketing team to write and edit blog posts, case studies, incentive letters, and white papers. I served as the sole writer/editor on re-design of entire website. During that intensive process, I streamlined messaging, leveraged use of videos, collected and organized testimonials and quotes, and collaborated with a third-party media and design company.

I crafted content for educational web pages for two large hospital websites, Atrium Health and Texas Children’s Hospital. I interviewed leading specialists to help “humanize” the content and distill the current research. I also made process and style recommendations related to diversity and inclusion, tone, and design.

Boise, Idaho Area

I collaborated with a team of doctors, specialists, editors, videographers, animators, medical illustrators, and graphic designers to create engaging, informative, award-winning health education materials—on just about any topic you can imagine. I am a champion of plain language, health literacy, and inclusiveness. I am trained in behavior change techniques, motivational interviewing, and shared-decision making. I was the content liaison with the user experience research team and I also planned and coordinated relevant monthly trainings for a team of 50 employees.

Boise, Idaho Area

I taught 18 to 20 hours of classes to a diverse group of non-native English learners, many of whom planned to apply to Boise State. I moved easily between level 1 and level 5, teaching classes in grammar, communication, reading and writing. I helped revamp the curriculum, bringing fresh lesson ideas from my well-respected TESOL master's program. Students remember me for my energetic, creative, rigorous, no-nonsense teaching style.

Spain

I planned and taught 16 hours of conversational ESL classes to over 600 students. I spent my first year in Spain teaching in a high school in the small town of El Burgo de Osma, where I was also recruited to offer an ESL class for teachers. The second year, I transferred to an official language school in Avila, where I taught a mix of high-schoolers and adults. I brought my passion for language, fun, and cross-cultural sharing to every class.

I wrote conversational interactive scripts around decision-focused health topics and conducted independent research on health topics, including patient and clinician interviews. I also collaborated with a cross-functional team including a director, animator, media producer, and Flash engineer. I underwent intensive training (at Jellyvision in Chicago) around writing and producing engaging, interactive conversations using branching logic software, and participated in many aspects of the R&D of the Healthwise Coach product. I was the principal writer on 3 interactive products that received health industry awards.

Boise, Idaho

I wrote arts and entertainment articles and features for this weekly newspaper which prides itself on incisive, fresh, entertaining writing and reporting. As A&E editor, I also managed a bevy of freelancers, and edited a separate, 30-page quarterly statewide arts publication. My feature "Urban Villages" received the "Best Serious Feature" award from the Idaho Press Club in 2004.
