Research focused on visualizing the localization of excess iron in the green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardteii using electron microscopy and nanoscale secondary ion mass spectrometry.

Researched on iron storage and transport in the green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardteii; outcome has the potential applications toward sustainable biofuel production and engineering enhanced iron food source. I completed my project utilizing inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, nanoscale secondary ion mass spectrometry, X-ray fluorescence microscopy, confocal fluorescence microscopy, and other common biochemical analyses (immunoblots, protein purification, RNA sequencing).

Research on characterizing the proteins involved in heme-transport and utilization in Pseudomonas aeruginosa (the Pseudomonas heme utilization (phu) system) using Raman and UV-Vis spectroscopy, coupled to rapid freeze-quench or an stopped-flow instrument. Specifically, my work included the completed kinetic analyses of free hemin acquisition by the Phu proteins and the corresponding sequence of coordination steps that take place during the transfer of heme.
