As a senior actuarial analyst, provided support in areas of pension plan valuation, pension accounting, administration and data analysis.Her responsibilities in this role included:- Receiving and responding to plan inquiries and requests from clients- Review of individual calculations, such as terminations and retirements for accuracy and compliance with plan terms and applicable regulations- Preparing actuarial valuations, including data analysis, coding in Excel or ProVal and drafting reports- Preparing accounting valuations and reporting under CPA 3462/3463, IFRS and PSAB- Applying and interpreting legislative requirements and plan provisions for clients- Training new analysts on systems and procedures- Supervision of junior actuarial students in preparation of pension plan annual statements, termination and retirement calculations, and other administrative requirements- Participating in client meetings and presentations- As a member of Eckler's pension practice training committee, ensuring training needs of the Halifax office are being met- Assisting with special projects, as requiredIn addition to traditional defined benefit pension consulting, Colleen has experience:- In the area of pension risk management, in particular executing annuity buy-outs for small pension plans- Conducting valuations for other post-employment benefits such as post-retirement health and life insurance benefits- Assisting in the development of real-time models showing the impact of different pension plan designs and funding policies
