My mornings are busy with surgical procedures including:• Preparation of surgery patients and equipment followed by assistance with surgeries. • Compute routine drug calculations for surgical and hospitalized patients, including administration and documentation of medications.• Placement of intravenous and urinary catheterization in patients.• Post-operative care, including extubation, monitoring vitals, ensuring patient safety upon awakening from anesthesia, communication with owners and medical record documentation. Patient care throughout the day encompasses:• Collection of blood from patients for laboratory analysis. Analyze specimens through operation of Idexx and Heska in-house diagnostic technologies. • Analysis of patient blood, urine, and stool through microscopic evaluation.Patient care continues through the afternoons and evenings as I:• Manage appointments including taking client history and assisting the veterinarian with any procedures.• Educate and instruct clients on recommendations made by the veterinarian for products, treatments, and procedures.• Complete radiographs for doctor evaluation.• Monitor, provide comfort and administer medications of hospitalized patients. • Close out appointments by completing invoicing, discharging patients, and ensuring all questions are answered.• On call one day per week and rotating weekends to respond to emergencies, including phone message monitoring, coordinating care with veterinarian, and assisting veterinarian with emergency procedures.
