My responsibilities include keeping the busy schedule of surgeries and appointments flowing quickly throughout the day. I have to deal with emergency situations that show up unannounced that require immediate attention. I have to control animals that can weigh up to 150 to 200 pounds and struggling to get away. Lifting pets on and off the operating table as well as moving deceased animals is another daily task. I am also in charge of taking animal vital signs, preparing slides for the vets, preparing vaccine and medication doses for the vets, cleaning and autoclaving surgical instruments, sending surgical instruments to be repaired, preparing surgical packs, ordering surgical supplies from Spectra, clean and set up surgery rooms, take inventory of medications, responsible for maintaining cleanliness in all patient rooms and areas, and doing the office laundry. Since April 2012 I have also been given the responsibility of being the front desk secretary. That requires me to answer phones, schedule appointments, manage and close out the cash drawer daily, and enter customer data into the computer. This job requires a lot of physical strength and most of the day is spent standing or walking from room to room.
