As part of the Quality Review Section, I visit practising firms throughout the country to review compliance with Chartered Accountants Ireland Audit Regulations and Rules of Professional Conduct.

My role includes all the activities related to organising and running a successful audit department. My daily duties include meeting with both clients and staff and the organising and scheduling audit and other departmental work. I am involved in the planning of audit assignments and in the review of audit files prior to partner sign-off. As Audit Manager I am required to deal with any technical or ethical issues that may arise and this may or may not involve making reference to Chariot for research or contacting the technical section of CAI. I liaise with our external Audit Compliance Reviewers to ensure our systems are continually up-dated to best practice. I assist in the preparation of the firms’ annual return to CAI. Other duties include acting as Chairperson of both audit dept. meetings and meeting of the firm’s senior management which includes partners. Together with my Audit Partner I am involved in the recruitment of audit dept. staff and also in their on-going support and supervision and the scheduling of senior staff’s cpd courses.I regularly give presentations on various audit, tax and company secretarial topics to both accountants and non-accountants including as part of the FAS Screen Training and IACP CPD programme.

I joined the firm as a junior, completed my training contract, passed my exams first time and qualified. Completed my post qualification experience and gained my audit certificate and responsible individual status. During my time I was appointed practice manager where I, together with the Firm’s two partners, was responsible for the smooth running of the firm. I regularly met and dealt with client queries and was involved in the scheduling of audit assignments and other work for staff. I had to regularly deal with technical queries from staff.
