An NFL PA announcer reflects the excitement of the in-stadium experience with professionalism. Working off a highly edited and tightly formatted script including sponsor ads and public service announcements. Introducing players and opposing teams, Color Guards, National Anthem performers, and in-game entertainment. Describing the action on the field with down and distance, energizing the fans with my signature “First down Washington!” and “Third down and long!” calls. All happening under the direction of the gameday producer. Preparation includes creating the spotter boards (gameday roster), making sure to have the proper pronunciations down, studying the names on the opposing roster in the middle of the week, proofreading scripts hours before kickoff. Each game turns into a 20 to 25-hour workweek. Once you begin pregame, the next 3 ½ hours are broken down into minutes and seconds. Did you know the actual length of an NFL game (While the ball is in play) is only around 11 minutes? Being a P.A. announcer for one of the most storied franchises in the NFL is a prestigious gig.
