At age seven Charles wrote his first composition which, according to his music teacher and mentor, was too simple in style and tonality, but eventually became the theme song for a present day TV soap opera. The first public performance of one of his compositions was in high school where he conducted The Divine Promise with his high school band. He attended Pensacola Junior College where another of his compositions, Fanfare and Offering, was publicly performed in concert and aired on the local classical radio station for the first time in the college’s history. Festival ’75 was written expressly for the 75th anniversary of the University of Redlands where he studied composition and performance under other renowned composers and film composer Jerry Goldsmith. He performed with the late Victor Borge and the Redlands Symphony Orchestra. He earned his Master’s degree at the University of Florida where he began his research in music therapy, and is the author of Three Dimensional Music. He lectured and toured in the USSR, Poland and Israel on his research in Music Therapy and Music Communications. Charles’ most recent compositions, We Are Here, was written as a memorial for the parents of deceased children, part of a collection of works in his “Book of Songs On Recalling Loss.” He is also working on revisions of two of his symphonies, is composing a string orchestra piece in the style of Wagner – also as a memorial – and has completed the original musical scores for two motion pictures. He recently performed and toured with Naomi Elizabeth with Rhapsody In Two as they were featured for the national convention of The Compassionate Friends in Oklahoma City and Weatherford Texas. Charles' most recent compositions are liturgical arrangements for Shabbat services at B'Nai B'rith in Santa Barbara and have been performed at synagogues in Beijing China.
