Associate Software Engineer
Lead Programmer
In May, we released a game on Steam called "The Exaggerated Epoch of Edward O'Hare" on Steam and itch.io.Prior to Jan 2021, I served primarily as the AI programmer and gameplay programmer. After Our game went forward out of a pool of over a dozen, we took on 9 new members (including 3 new programmers) so I shifted away from direct programming duties to take on primarily a leadership role.Later, I served as the Lead Programmer, build master and the primary lead of the combat/AI sub-team. When possible, I filled in holes in programming duties to lighten the load on other programmers who may be overloaded for a sprint. Otherwise, I worked to oversee progress, prioritize work and maintain the repo and documentation.
Programming Intern
As a programming intern, my primary focus was updating and fixing weapon asset packs for the Unreal and Unity stores. Despite the coronavirus forcing me to return to the States, I was able to finish out the back half of my internship remotely using TargetProcess, Perforce, and Discord to coordinate with my supervisor and other members of the team.My most common tasks include: - Built and tested packs in new versions of the engines to prepare them for distribution - Fixed issues with missing or offtime animations - Fixed issues with missing materials - Fixed issues with controls such as weapon switching and firingI was also asked to add functionality to packs and help with customer issues. Some functionality I added was different bullet hits based on materials, which I did in Unreal 4 using blueprints and their particle system. As for customer support, I was occasionally asked to help with customer support tickets by answering questions and/or trying to replicate their issues in either Unity or Unreal.
Human-Centered Designer Team Lead | Emergent Media Center
As a lead on this project, I took an administrative role in addition to my normal responsibilities as a Human-Centered Designer. These new responsibilities included: - Coordinating with the team - Answering questions on current/future tasks - Assisting with onboarding new members to Human-Centered Design and working at the EMCAs a lead, I headed multiple weekly meetings, constructed timelines, and worked a lot with our faculty manager on logistical issues. The project itself was working with Holy Name Medical Center to create a "Risk-Adjustment Factor" training tool for their doctors and physician network. For this leg of the project, we were primarily focused on creating a survey for the workers at the hospital to better understand their issues and needs with code input and the Medicare system. This involved extensive research into how Medicare and RAF coding works and working closely with the client to ensure our information was accurate.
Advanced Human-Centered Designer | Emergent Media Center
As an advanced Human-Centered Designer, I was responsible for helping new designers get comfortable with the Human-Centered Design methodology and the project in general in addition to the normal duties of being a designer. Human Centered-Design is a process that focuses on the client and finding the best solution among many potentially good ideas. As a designer, I worked with a team of three other students to think of ideas, research target markets and technologies, give and receive feedback, as well as present ideas and progress to members of National Life Group and other members of the Emergent Media Center. The project's goal was "...delivering a series of design concepts for a delivery vehicle (platform) for Financial Literacy content" for National Life Group, a life insurance company based in Montpelier, Vermont that operates across the US. The team and I brainstormed many ideas, then through extensive research, discussion and multiple rounds of feedback from National Life and other sources narrowed them down to four different concepts that we then showed to members of their corporate communication and media departments in a final presentation that the team and I created.
Human-Centered Designer | Emergent Media Center
As a Human-Centered Designer, I worked with a team of other students to learn the basics of Human Centered-Design. This is a process that focuses on the client and finding the best solution among many potentially good ideas. This is an iterative process that involves a lot of empathy interviews, feedback and improvement. We used this methodology to discover different ways to improve the Heritage Winooski Mill Museum. I brainstormed and made prototypes of different ways to rearrange the museum and new content to add to the museum. I presented these to both the team and the museum director to receive feedback so that I could iterate on those ideas.
Office Administrative Assistant
As an administrative assistant at a small chiropractic office, I assisted the owner with various items she needed to get to. I handled patient records as well as make electronic versions of old intake and patient forms in Microsoft Word. I also set up a MyoVision Thermoglide back scanner and printer cart to monitor patients' progress.
Junior Web Developer | Emergent Media Center
As a Junior Web Developer, I worked under another student on a project making a self-contained, online, early-learning course for teachers using Canvas. I was initially tasked with creating HTML activities for the individual modules. When that was finished I assisted in adding functionality to the course using JSON and jQuery.
Technical Intern | Emergent Media Center
As a technical intern, I worked with other Interns to research various topics like the Physical Web and maker spaces and presented what we learned to the faculty. We also put together a "Question Storming" event that I co-hosted with another intern.
