Senior Mandarin Teacher
Current- Develop curriculum and teach Mandarin 1,2,3,4,4H, and AP Chinese at Los Altos High School. I successfully expanded the Mandarin program: student enrollment has doubled within first two years. Program grew from 4 sections in 2015-16 to 11 sections in 2024-25, becoming the largest high school Mandarin program in the Bay Area.2024-25 teaching assignment: Mandarin 1, Mandarin 3 and AP Chinese.- Design and administer the placement test to ensure all students are placed in the appropriate level- Collaborate with other Mandarin teachers (at Los Altos High School, Mountain View High School and the two feeder schools Egan Junior High and Bullis Charter School) to work on vertical alignment of the Mandarin program- Work as a master/cooperating teacher with San Jose State University, San Francisco State University and Notre Dame de Namur University to supervise, model, guide and evaluate the student teacher in order to assist with the development of their teaching skills- AP Reader since 2020 (evaluate and score AP students' free responses, ensuring that high school students receive AP grades that accurately reflect college-level achievement in Chinese)- Serve on National Honor Society (NHS) Faculty Council to review student applications and interview student candidates running for office- Help organize school's annual language day celebration by putting together 10+ special presentations/sessions related to Chinese culture. Over 250 students participate in Chinese brush painting, calligraphy, Kung Fu, Taichi, cooking, music, Ping Pong, dragon dance, etc.-Serve as the advisor of the Chinese Culture Club (student club) and Tea Time (Chinese parent group) - Piloted the National Mandarin Exam in the district- AP Chinese exam passing rate has been 100% since 2015, 90% students receive 5 on the exam Show less
