I am adaptable, focused, and have excellent computing and IT skills and experience, meaning that I can parse and understand most computing terms easily. I am observant and notice errors easily, even during casual reading. I am honest, punctual, and reliable, so you can trust me to provide you with an accurate time frame, to stick to it, and to inform you of delays or problems while working for you. I have excellent research skills, which speeds up completion times in general, but especially when working on topics that I am unfamiliar with.I am an officially accredited proofreader who gained my certification from Proofread Anywhere, which required completing an examination with a pass mark of above 90%. I achieved 97%. I primarily work in American English, using the Chicago Manual of Style as my main proofreading guide, but I can also proofread for British English as I am from the UK. I am most qualified for proofreading in the field of computer science, although I have more experience proofing fiction books due to my volunteer work with Project Gutenberg.I have worked for about three months now on a voluntary basis for Distributed Proofreaders' Project Gutenberg, which converts old, physical documents and novels into eBooks using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software. A proofreader working for Project Gutenberg checks the scanned page images against the text that the OCR software outputs, to ensure that the software hasn't turned any O's into zeros, or h's into b's. We also check for any errors that exist the documents themselves, and mark them to be checked by more experienced proofreaders. I have proofread over six hundred pages of documents for them so far, and have averaged over 80% accuracy on my work with them.
