Everyone is a sum of all their parts. This is a statement that can either accelerate or limit someone. I chose to approach it as the former. Looking back on my life, I take appreciation for the many parts that have made me who I am today. I can proudly say that I am a son of a small business owner, former collegiate athlete (even if it was for a year), and now mechanical design engineer. But that is only some of the parts that define my skill set. From each of those parts, you can break down even further. I have gained unique perspectives and attitudes from each of those aspects of myself, like leadership and work ethic from soccer, vision and determination inherited from my dad, and a constant drive to learn and problem solve from my time as an engineer. Combining all that composes who I am drives where I want to make an impact in the workplace. My background in leadership and being on sports teams my whole life pairs with my B.A. in Mechanical Engineering in my goal of leading groups to design real-world solutions for observed problems. Currently, this places me in the position to impact the medical device industry. But one day this chapter in my life will just be one part in the sum of who I will have then developed to be. This attitude infiltrates my life in many aspects. It makes me want to seek out new experiences to create new skills and perspectives to carry with me into whatever life may put at my feet. I am constantly approaching challenges to learn and grow every day because I want to add more “parts” to who I am.
