I worked as a part of the environmental team and completed a number of tasks during my time here.- Sewage treatment plant effluents sampling- Installation of a 10m weather monitoring mast- Spill cleaning using temporary bunding and absorbant materials- Replacement of dust gauge bottlesMy main project during this placement was the verification of the locations and volumes of topsoil stockpiles using geospatial data in ArcGIS and Deswik. This involved manipulating existing data in ArcGIS and exporting it to Deswik to calculate the volumes of these stockpiles. Following onfrom this, I spent a day sampling some stockpiles that were considered to be of uncertain quality. I also developed a topsoil sampling plan for all topsoil stockpiles across the mine so that their qualities could be determined, though this will only be enacted after the conclusion of my placement.
